Venture group · Global

Hard problems, long horizons.

Ariad is a globally networked venture group. We build self-sustaining ventures in investment, manufacturing, housing, and education that cross-feed one another — capital, supply chains, talent — and carry the long-horizon work: clean cooking, smart appliances, sustainable communities, and the founders taking these problems on.

One letter, sixteen scripts — design is how an idea travels.

2M+

people impacted by the first pay-as-you-go LPG platform (KopaGas / Circle Gas)

15+ years

building and scaling energy and hardware businesses across Africa, Asia, and Latin America

8 mini-grids

prepaid solar systems delivered across 5 countries — 200,000+ people reached

01The model

Ventures that sustain the work — and each other.

Ariad takes on problems worth a decade — clean cooking, affordable appliances, community-scale infrastructure — and builds the ventures that can carry them that far. Each venture stands on its own, and each feeds the others: capital from the Bajío, supply chains from Hangzhou, talent and research from the universities we work with.

We also invest in founders — backing people who take on the same kind of hard, unglamorous problems, with capital plus the things capital can’t buy: field experience and a working supply chain. It is led by Seb Rodríguez — entrepreneur-scientist and co-founder of KopaGas / Circle Gas, the first pay-as-you-go LPG platform — who has run this arc once already: build, scale, exit, reinvest.

02The ventures

What we run now.

Five operating and near-term ventures across Mexico, China, and East Africa. Each stands on its own; together they sustain the long-horizon work in the lab below.

Venture names are withheld while the entities are formalized — introductions on request.

01Operating

Investment & financial services

A regional investment vehicle in Mexico’s Bajío (Guanajuato, Querétaro, Aguascalientes). The capital engine of the group.

02Operating

Hardware sourcing & manufacturing

Sourcing and manufacturing operations rooted in a decade of factory experience in Hangzhou, China — the supply chain behind every product the group ships.

03In development

Student housing

Safe, dignified, affordable housing for university students in Guanajuato Capital: a public–private proof of concept designed to replicate at scale.

04Launching

University entrepreneurship programs

Innovation and deep-tech entrepreneurship programs for Latin American universities and their communities.

05Raising pre-seed

Neighborhood commerce platform

Turning the corner shop in sub-Saharan Africa into a neighborhood platform — clean cooking energy, cold, battery power, and credit on pay-as-you-go terms over mobile-money rails.

03The lab

The long-horizon work.

Translational industrial design: research → prototype → manufacturing → adoption → measurable impact. The through-line is prepaid smart metering and affordability-by-transaction-design — the mechanism that turns hardware into a self-sustaining, measurable system. Findings are published openly.

01Flagship · open research

Clean cooking & modern energy use

The Sustainable Cooking Lab: open research on electric and PAYG cooking for emerging markets — the most developed package, built on direct field track record.

02In design

Smart household & communal appliances

Design research for connected appliances adapted to real use and real cash-flow conditions, not idealized households.

03In design

PAYGO product-service systems

Pay-as-you-go hardware, metering, and service design that makes durable goods affordable by transaction design.

04Early

Sustainable-community pilots

Neighbourhood-scale energy and infrastructure design — the same method applied at community scale.

04Method

From field to factory to impact.

Step 1

Research

Field data over narrative: meter logs, supply chains walked in person, user behavior before market sizing.

Step 2

Prototype

A product concept is a testable claim about how people live. Build it, instrument it.

Step 3

Manufacturing

Translation to production — supply-chain links in China and Italy, readiness before scale.

Step 4

Adoption

Prepaid smart metering and affordability-by-transaction-design turn hardware into a service people keep.

Step 5

Measured impact

Open findings, private commercials. If it changed lives, the data shows it.

05Track record

Proof the sequence works.

Market-scale product, deep-tech translation, development delivery, and infrastructure planning. Findings and design reasoning are public; commercial terms stay private.
